The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested four suspects in connection with a clash between farmers and herders that claimed one life and led to the destruction of several properties.

The incident occurred in Guda Village, Ningi Local Government Area, after cattle reportedly grazed on and destroyed crops on a local farm. The affected farmers in response, chased the livestock to the settlement of the herders, which led to a fight that left three farmers injured and prompted youths to burn down nearby houses in retaliation.

One of the injured farmers, identified as 40-year-old Usman Jibrin, later died while receiving treatment at the General Hospital in Ningi. Police officers were quickly deployed to the scene to restore normalcy and evacuate the victims.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Habib, in a statement confirmed the arrest of the suspects, urging residents to stay calm as investigations continues:

“Through intelligence-led efforts, our operatives have, on October 8, 2026, arrested four suspects in connection with the offences of criminal conspiracy, causing grievous hurt, mischief by fire and culpable homicide,” the statement read in part.

Meanwhile, the Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has ordered the transfer of the suspects to the State Criminal Investigation Department for thorough prosecution as investigations are ongoing.
