The Nigeria Police Force has warned worshippers to avoid publicly disclosing their wealth and personal achievements during church testimonies following a foiled plot to kidnap a female cleric in Abuja.
Operatives of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) arrested four suspects who allegedly conspired to abduct Prophetess Elizabeth shortly after she shared a testimony about her recent successes.
After interrogating the suspects on Thursday, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the IRT, Adamu Muazu, disclosed that the attack was orchestrated from within the congregation and timed for the end of a late evening service. According to him, the four arrested suspects, who plotted to abduct the cleric after an evening service, included her driver and a bodyguard attached to the head pastor.
“Surprisingly, this happened to be her driver, who worked with her. And the second suspect is a bodyguard to the head church pastor. They are all members of the same church…It doesn’t conform with common sense and rationality in the midst of a gathering of people watching you, thinking that they are all men of God. Everybody has his own motive of going to the church”. Muazu stated.
The police command urged religious leaders, particularly those managing facilities on the outskirts of the city, to upgrade their security architectures and monitor all access routes.
Muazu advised congregants to remain vigilant, warning that criminals now exploit financial and personal information shared openly during religious gatherings to attack members on their way home.
