The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the display of the preliminary register of voters and the distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) nationwide.

The seven-day exercise, which runs from October 9 to October 15, 2026, is taking place simultaneously at Registration Area centres across the states. Registered voters are advised to verify their details, raise objections, and collect PVCs produced from the first phase of the Continuous Voter Registration held between August and December 2025.

In Plateau State, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Professor Sam Egwu, confirmed the commencement in a statement, explaining that the exercise aligns with Section 19(1) of the Electoral Act 2026, mandating the commission to display the register not less than 90 days before the general elections.

“All registered voters are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to carefully check information they provided, such as their names, photographs, date of birth, polling units and other relevant registration details to make necessary claims and objections within this stipulated period as an accurate voter register is important for free and credible elections”, Egwu.

He added that the exercise will hold daily from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm across all 207 Registration Areas in the state.

Similarly, the Sokoto State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Umar Garba, briefed journalists at the Nigeria Union of Journalists Press Centre, that the commission is actively engaging security agencies to ensure a safe process and to establish the number of Internally Displaced Persons for participation in the polls.

Garba stated that PVCs for transfers, updates, and lost or damaged cards from the second and third phases of the registration are not yet ready. Following the October 15 deadline at the Registration Areas, the distribution will shift to INEC offices across the 23 local government areas in Sokoto.
