A Yoruba elder has ignited debate across social media platforms, after declaring in a video his support for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election, due to his ethnic background, despite admitting the economic reality of the country.
In the video which is currently trending across social media platforms, the unnamed elder insisted that Tinubu remains the preferred choice for the South-West region ahead of the next presidential race.
He stated that the president’s actual performance in office does not matter, for him, the priority is seeing Tinubu secure a second term. He argued that the Yoruba must complete their full turn in power before the presidency shifts to another region.
He also warned the president about his political prospects in his South-West home base. He advised Tinubu to write off states like Ogun and Oyo, stating that voters there are frustrated and fully prepared to speak their minds at the polls.
“Either Tinubu knows how to do it or he does not know how to do it. Tinubu should go back there because he is still the tenure of the Yoruba people…We want to support Baba. Not that everything is good in Nigeria. Not that we don’t know our rights”, the elder stated.
Addressing Peter Obi directly, the elder advised the former presidential candidate to step aside for the president to complete his tenure in office.
