Nigerian media personality Ifedayo Olarinde, popularly known as Daddy Freeze, has advised financially unstable men against marrying the firstborn daughters of impoverished families. The broadcaster issued the warning in a trending video addressed to young men still trying to establish their financial footing.
Daddy Freeze warned that such unions require substantial financial resources rather than just a regular income. He argued that firstborn daughters from poor backgrounds carry significant familial responsibilities that could overwhelm an unprepared husband.
“As a man, never marry the firstborn daughter of a poor man unless you are extremely wealthy. I repeat what I’m saying. Do not marry any girl that is firstborn from a poor home unless you are extremely wealthy.”
He added that a standard civil service salary is insufficient to manage these extended family demands, urging suitors to assess their financial capacity before committing to such marriages.
“I don’t mean civil service wealthy. I mean generational wealth wealthy. Nor de marry other unless you get money or your papa get plenty money.”
The controversial broadcaster described such women as “expanders of poverty” who often carry heavy financial burdens from their extended families, and might abandon the marriage once their family’s living conditions improve.
“They are called the expanders of poverty and they will use you to upgrade themselves and their families and very often even leave you once they are done with the upgrade.”
