Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has approved long-overdue promotions for 18,984 teaching and non-teaching staff under the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).

The approval covers the January and July 2026 promotion cycles for basic education workers across all 44 Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs) in the state.

The governor has authorized the release of over N235 million to cover the corresponding salary increases for the affected workers.

This exercise finally clears a backlog of unapproved promotions spanning up to seven years, a systemic problem which the current administration says it inherited from previous governments.

Sunusi Tofa, the Director General of Media and Publicity at the Kano Government House, confirmed the development in a press statement released on Tuesday, stating that the state government has already completed the necessary staff verification and salary computation processes.

“We currently have about 60,000 teaching and non-teaching personnel serving across the 44 LGEAs, making it one of the largest public institutions in the state,” Tofa stated.

The Kano State Executive Council has officially ratified the approval, clearing the path for the planned disbursement by the state government.
