The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has criticized his predecessor Rotimi Amaechi, claiming he failed to bring meaningful development or political empowerment to Rivers State despite holding top public offices for over two decades.

Speaking during an interactive session with leaders and stakeholders of Evo Kingdom in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area, Wike challenged community members to identify any major infrastructure project or empowerment program brought to the area by Amaechi during his 24 years in governance.

Amaechi served as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly for eight years, Governor of Rivers State for eight years, and Minister of Transportation for another eight years under former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Wike compared Amaechi’s 24-year tenure with his own time as Minister of State for Education, stating that he attracted several visible projects to Rivers State while in office. He accused his long-time rival of practicing selfish politics that fails to raise new leaders or build long-term development for the people.

“Someone was Speaker of the House of Assembly for eight years, Governor for eight years, and Minister for eight years, that is 24 years in top leadership positions! What can anybody point to that he attracted to Evo Kingdom or Rivers State in all those 24 years? Nothing! Not one single thing!”, Wike.

The FCT Minister also addressed his own political future, stating that he has no further personal ambitions after serving as local government chairman, governor, and a two-time minister. According to the Minister, his main goal now is helping his people and supporting President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
