African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has promised to end electoral malpractice and guarantee the independence of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) if elected president in 2027.
Speaking at the ADC national headquarters in Abuja during Nigeria’s 66th Independence anniversary address on Thursday, the former Vice President mentioned key electoral reform he planned to adopt if elected president to help rebuild public trust in the democratic process of the country.
Under his proposed agenda, polling unit results would be published publicly without delay to ensure total transparency. He also pledged the immediate prosecution of anyone caught buying votes or tampering with election outcomes, regardless of political affiliation.
Atiku urged Nigerian voters ahead of the 2027 elections, to safeguard their ballots, resist political intimidation, and demand for a more realistic campaign plans rather than vague promises from candidates.
“Anyone caught buying votes or altering election results will face prosecution. The coming election offers us a peaceful way to choose our course. This country is yours”, Atiku.
Atiku added that security and favourable economic reforms would form core priorities of his governance if elected into office.
