A 61-year-old vulcaniser, Edeh Paul, has won a 11.5-kilometer trekking competition organized in Makurdi, by Tito Group of Companies to celebrate Nigeria’s Independence Day alongside the United Nations International Day of Older Persons, taking home a grand prize of N500,000.

The 61 year old vulcaniser, who finished the challenge in under two hours to claim the top spot, plans to invest the N500,000 prize money back into his business by buying new equipment.

“I feel so happy winning this trek-a-thon. I’m a regular Tito customer and will continue to patronize their products”, Paul.

The CEO of Tito Group, Chief Asiwaju Isaac Akinkunmi, said the motivation behind the competition was to promote physical fitness while honoring the hard work and historical contribution of older citizens.

“We celebrate their contribution to the economy of Nigeria because they were there when the country experienced colonialism”, Akinkunmi said.

Other participants like Paul Ejedike and Chubiyo Richard, who finished as first and second runners-up respectively, also went home with rewards, alongside the winners in the women’s category. The organizers also gave consolation prizes to everyone else who participated.
