Veteran actor and filmmaker Richard Mofe-Damijo, popularly known as RMD, has called on Nigerians to stop criticizing the government and focus on providing solutions to its challenges.

The event, which was held at the MUSON Centre, was themed “The Reputation Dividend: Who Pays for Nigeria’s Perception?” It brought together leading voices from the creative, media, and public relations sectors to examine how national perception affects business opportunities and everyday citizens.

Speaking on Tuesday at the maiden edition of the Pivot Nigeria conference in Lagos, RMD said every Nigerian pays a personal price for how the country is viewed across the world. He stated that every citizen acts as a representative of the nation on the global stage.

“Just remember who you are. You are an ambassador, not just for yourself, your parents, or your school, but ultimately for your country”, RMD

RMD stressed that while citizens must hold leaders accountable, they should also recognize how their own conduct shapes Nigeria’s image abroad. He added that the global success of Nollywood, Afrobeats, and business leaders like Aliko Dangote as clear proof that Nigerians are actively building valuable reputation capital from within.

“We are too quick to condemn us. There are problems, but we need to fix them. Don’t stand and just criticise and then proffer no solution,” RMD.

Also speaking at the event, the convener and Lead Consultant at HighStakes PR Professionals, Victoria Uwadoka, described national reputation as a vital asset that requires collective effort. She urged both the media and individuals to share balanced stories by sharing both the country’s progress and its realities.

“Tell the truth about where we are. Be balanced. There’s not only bad about us, but there’s also good as well,” Uwadoka stated.

She added that the government must also do its part by creating an enabling environment through sound policies, infrastructure, and strong public institutions.
