Flamingos thrash Togo 4-0 to clinch WAFU B U-17 title

Nigeria’s under-17 women’s football team, the Flamingos, have been crowned the new champions of the 2026 WAFU B U-17 tournament after crushing Togo 4-0 in their final match.

The Flamingos finished the competition with a perfect record, winning all five of their games, becoming the first team to achieve a flawless run in the history of the tournament.

Nigeria topped the six-nation table with 15 solid points, leaving second-placed Ghana trailing by six points.

During the final game, Harmony Chidera led the attack by scoring two penalty kicks. She netted the first in the 15th minute after Oluwakemi Adegbuyi was fouled inside the box. She stepped up again in the 35th minute to convert a second penalty after another foul on Adegbuyi.

The Flamingos refused to slow down in the second half. In the 67th minute, Oluebube Umejiaku floated a cross from the wing that sailed straight into the top corner of the net. Adegbuyi then got a well-deserved goal of her own in the 90th minute to complete the 4-0 thrashing.

Winning this regional trophy gives the team a morale boost ahead of their next big challenge.
