“Let’s eat Amala, Fura together” – Sultan calls for Muslim-Christian unity

The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has called on Muslim and Christian leaders across Nigeria to put their differences aside and unite for peace.

Speaking on the need for religious tolerance, the monarch stressed that followers of both faiths can build stronger relationships and live together in harmony. He used popular local foods like fura, amala, and tuwo to illustrate how sharing a meal can bring people from different backgrounds to the same table.

“I believe we Muslim and Christian leaders can sit in one place, drink fura, eat amala and tuwo together,” the Sultan.

He added that religious differences should never stand in the way of true friendship and community building.

Many praised the Sultan statement, calling it a timely and much-needed message of peace. However, some social critics challenged religious leaders to go beyond public speeches and take concrete action to stop the violence and religious intolerance happening in their local communities.
