African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has named Kashim Ibrahim-Imam as chairman of his campaign council for the 2027 general elections and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai as his deputy.
The announcement was made in a statement issued by Atiku’s media strategist, Phrank Shaibu, who mentioned that the council features six operational directorates and 30 directors, created to eliminate political patronage and ensure clear accountability.
Senator Austin Akobundu was appointed Director-General and Campaign Manager to handle daily operations, while publisher Dele Momodu will head the Media and Communications Directorate. Former Edo State Governor John Odigie-Oyegun was named chairman of the Campaign Advisory Council, and the economist Mohammed Hayatudeen leading the policy team.
Atiku stated that the campaign will focus strictly on addressing key national challenges like the high cost of living, rising unemployment, and security threats.
“At a time when families are being compelled to do more with less, the campaign must demonstrate the same discipline, prudence and sensitivity it seeks to bring to government…There will be no room for ornamental appointments. Every directorate has a responsibility, every director has an assignment, and every level will be expected to account for results”, Atiku.
Meanwhile, Kingsley Moghalu took to his verified X (formerly Twitter) account, after seeing his name as a member of Atiku’s policy team, that he was never consulted and did not give permission to be added to the team.
He said that he has closed his chapter of partisan politics in Nigeria since 2022 and has since maintained a non-partisan posture in the affairs of the nation. He said that he has chosen the path of statesmanship instead of partisanship.
