A police officer and three civilians have been killed in fresh attacks in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, despite a newly imposed curfew in the region.
The Plateau State Police Command confirmed that gunmen ambushed security personnel attached to Operation Rainbow along Gagshi Road on Tuesday night, which led to the death of a Chief Superintendent of the Police.
Assailants also killed three civilians, in a separate incident in the same local government area, in Rakok community.
According to reports, these attacks happened barely hours after the Plateau State Government declared a 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew across Barkin Ladi, Bokkos, and Mangu local government areas to curb rising insecurity.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, said security forces are being deployed and are currently investigating the attacks and working closely with credible intelligence in order to bring the perpetrators to book.
Meanwhile, the Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM) has criticized the curfew, for to it ineffectiveness. The group publicity secretary, Rwang Tengwong said the restriction only keeps law-abiding citizens locked in their homes while criminals move around freely.
Tengwong made references to the death of a 22-year-old Henry Elisha, who was killed during a Monday night attack in Rakwok. He revealed that mourners at Elisha’s funeral on Tuesday were trapped after gunmen engaged security personnel in a gun battle near the community.
The association said the people of Plateau State are tired of burying their sons and daughters. They plead on the government to come to their aid by enforcing urgent military action against known hideouts and routes used by the attackers.
