The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Dutse branch, has formally demanded a transparent prosecution of a Department of State Services (DSS) officer, Ifeanyi Onyewuenyi.

‎The officer is accused of abduction, rape, and forced conversion of Walida Abdullahi, who was just 16 when she first disappeared over two years ago.

‎The according to the allegations raised Onyewuenyi abducted Walida at age 16, subjected her to repeated sexual assault resulting in the birth of a child, and forcibly converted her to Christianity before attempting to marry her formally.

‎The case came to light in January 2026 after the suspect reportedly contacted the father of the victim to inform him of her whereabouts. It was reported that Walida’s mother passed away due to the trauma of her daughter’s disappearance.

‎The NBA Dutse branch labeled the actions of the officer as an appalling display of impunity and a gross abuse of office. After a court issued an order on January 7, the DSS confirmed that Onyewuenyi has been arrested and is currently undergoing internal and criminal investigation.

The actions represent an appalling level of barbarism and a crass display of impunity… a gross abuse of his position as a DSS officer. The victim was reportedly held against her will for over two years and gave birth to a child as a result of the alleged rape – A.B. Umar, Publicity Secretary, NBA Dutse

‎The suspect faces multiple felony charges, including abduction, unlawful detention, defilement of a minor (rape), and abuse of office.

‎The NBA has vowed to monitor the proceedings to ensure justice is not only done but seen to be done.
