Kenneth Okonkwo, a prominent lawyer and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has labeled supporters of Peter Obi who remain outside the ADC as “disObidients.”
Speaking on Channels Television on January 2, Okonkwo stated that the Obidient movement must fully migrate from the Labour Party to the ADC to form a unified front for the 2027 general elections.
If you listen to Obi’s interview on X space, he said all the Obidients should go and register as members of the ADC. So if you are an Obidient and you’re not in the ADC… you are a disObidient – Kenneth Okonkwo
The ADC has become the vessel for the National Opposition Coalition Group, an unprecedented alliance featuring top former opposition members like Atiku Abubakar (PDP), Rotimi Amaechi, Sule Lamido and Nasir El-Rufai (APC), amongst others, to unseat President Tinubu in 2027.
Okonkwo admitted that allowing followers to remain in various parties after the 2023 elections was a mistake and that 2026 marks the beginning of a one-party opposition strategy.
Despite the influx of top political actors, the ADC National Working Committee has not yet decided on zoning the position to a specific region, which remains the biggest potential challenge of the coalition.
