Dr. Chris Ngige, the former Minister of Labour and Employment and immediate past governor of Anambra State, is currently in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The development was confirmed by Ngige’s media aide, Fred Chukwuelobe, via his Facebook page on Thursday morning, clarifying the early circulating reports that the former governor had been abducted or kidnapped.
I have been receiving calls in the past hour from friends and journalists seeking the veracity of the news making the rounds of His Excellency, Dr. Chris Ngige, former governor of Anambra state and immediate past minister of labour and employment, has been kidnapped, Ngige is with the EFCC. He was not abducted or kidnapped – Chukwuelobe
The EFCC has not yet issued an official statement regarding the development.
Ngige is the second former minister from the Muhammadu Buhari administration to be detained by the EFCC in recent times. Ngige’s detention follows that of Abubakar Malami, the former Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, who is also currently in EFCC custody.
