The Kaduna State Police Command has launched a manhunt following the discovery of 210 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition that fell from a moving passenger bus along the busy Zaria-Funtua highway on Tuesday.

The police confirmed that the ammunition was collected by bystanders who then alerted security operatives. Authorities suspects the illegal cargo was dumped by suspects who grew nervous after noticing the increased number of police patrols and checkpoints on the highway.

Authorities believe the suspects dumped the ammunition after sensing danger due to increased motorized and snap checkpoint patrols by the Command – ‎Mansur Hassan, Kaduna Police spokesperson

The recovered 210 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition is a standard calibre often used in AK-47 assault rifles, the weapon often used by bandits and terrorist groups operating in Kaduna and neighboring states.

‎Efforts by the police to trace and apprehend the fleeing vehicle were unsuccessful, which the Command attributed to delays in information reaching the patrol team.
