Lauretta Onochie, a former Presidential Aide to the late President Muhammadu Buhari, has publicly declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will not secure a return to power in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at a political gathering, Onochie, who previously served in the administration of the All Progressives Congress (APC), distanced herself from the current government and vowed that Tinubu’s exit from Aso Rock is non-negotiable.

Onochie admitted to having voted for President Tinubu in the 2023 elections but expressed deep regret over that decision;

‎He was elected by the people including me standing here and shamefully too and regrettably too…Tinubu has no pathway to return in 2027. We are not saying maybe or maybe not. He’s gone. Tinubu is gone… We will just march on in 2027 and I think 2027 he will be gone. It is non-negotiable. He is gone already

Onochie indicated that her faction would adopt a measured approach to campaigning;

We will work gently. We are not going to be running around or doing whatever they are doing. We are not going to go with them

Onochie served in key roles under the Buhari administration, including as Special Assistant on Social Media and later as the Chairperson of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) board.
