Nigerian Afrobeats musician Damini Ogulu, internationally known as Burna Boy, has publicly revealed his personal journey from Christianity to Islam, stating that despite his religious exploration, he remains uncertain about definitive spiritual truths.

The Grammy-winning singer discussed his religious background and current spiritual beliefs in a recent interview with Plaqueboymax, concluding that his research has led to more complex questions than answers.

This spiritual inquiry has made him wary of formalized faith structures, based on his belief that “Everything comes from the workshop of the sun” and that scientific evidence frequently conflicts with religious accounts.

During his conversation with Plaqueboymax, the artist explained that his initial Christian upbringing was a product of his family and environment. He emphasized that his initial faith was inherited, not chosen. He detailed how he actively sought a deeper understanding, which ultimately led him to skepticism.

‎I grew up as a Christian, but then I converted to Islam and all types. It is like I have studied it all. I am still out here trying to find what is really going on – Burna Boy

He stressed the importance of his personal relationship with the divine over following rigid rules.

I am very spiritual. I believe we are creations. If we are creations, there must be a creator. That is why when I pray, I feel like I am being heard

The artist stated in the interview that despite studying multiple doctrines, he believes in a “Creator” and feels protected by a higher power that transcends formal religion, but his quest has intensified his uncertainty, leading him to believe that “religion is a controlled mechanism.”
