The Central Mosque, which is strategically located in front of the Paramount Ruler of Donga chiefdom’s palace, has been the center of a protracted disagreement over religious authority. A report attributed that the clash started between two groups known as the Izala Jos sect and the Danburam family.
The confrontation, which erupted after a disagreement over who should lead the mosque, quickly escalated into violence, requiring the deployment of security agents, including soldiers, to contain the situation and prevent a further breakdown of law and order.
