Security forces in Taraba State have arrested two impersonators dressed in police uniforms transporting over 1,000 blocks of cannabis in trucks intercepted at Takum Junction, Wukari Local Government Area.
On Thursday, troops from the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), together with officers from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), halted two Toyota Hilux trucks suspected of carrying illegal drugs. The vehicles, loaded with cannabis, were traced back to Akure in Ondo State and were reportedly headed toward Adamawa State.
The suspects, caught in mobile police camouflage, were quickly identified as impostors with no active police service records. While one of the trucks was abandoned by some occupants who fled on sighting the troops, two individuals remained detained for possession and transport of narcotics.
Lieutenant Umar Mohammed, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for 6 Brigade, Jalingo, confirmed the arrests, identifying the suspects as Monday George, a 71-year-old former and dismissed Police ASP, and Ezeugo Destiny Uche, aged 41. A total of 1,134 blocks of cannabis were seized from the vehicles.
Both suspects and seized drugs have been handed over to the NDLEA office in Wukari for thorough investigation and prosecution.
