A 30-year-old Kano resident, Mutawakilu Ibrahim, was taken into custody on Thursday after allegedly stabbing his elderly grandparents to death over a disagreement about food at their home in Kofar Dawanau Quarters.
The tragedy unfolded following a fierce argument between Ibrahim and his grandfather, Muhammad Dansokoto, 75, alongside grandmother Hadiza Tasidi, aged 65. According to police reports, the confrontation escalated, resulting in Ibrahim attacking the couple with a knife, causing serious injuries.
Both victims were rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, where medics confirmed their deaths due to the severity of wounds sustained. Their family later conducted burial rites consistent with Islamic traditions.
Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, revealed that the suspect might have been intoxicated at the time. The Police Commissioner, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has directed that the case be swiftly transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department’s Homicide Section for thorough inquiry.
