The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has reported interruptions in electricity supply to several areas served by Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KAEDCO).

This disruption came after Tower No. 7, located along Kaduna Town Line I and II in the Rigasa neighborhood, gave way on Thursday, September 18, 2025. The collapse was triggered by a severe storm accompanied by heavy rainfall and strong winds.

Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, explained that during an inspection of the site, linemen discovered that vandals had removed some critical components of the tower, weakening its structure and making it vulnerable to failure.

The power outage primarily affected parts of southern Kaduna, leaving residents in a number of communities without electricity.

To mitigate the consequences, TCN has recommended that KAEDCO connect its 33kV Mogadishu feeder with the 33kV Abakwa feeder, allowing customers in affected areas like Mogadishu to regain access to power.

Meanwhile, other districts including Kinkinau, Yan Tukwane, Kabala West, Unguwan Muazu, and Kaduna North continue to enjoy uninterrupted electricity, according to Mbah.

‎Our technical teams are currently clearing debris from the collapsed structure and preparing to erect a replacement tower as swiftly as possible. We apologise sincerely to those affected by the blackout and appreciate their patience as we work tirelessly to restore full power supply – said the public affairs manager

The company assured that every measure is being taken to shorten the duration of the outage and bring relief to affected consumers.
