Wayne Rooney fires Manchester United after heavy derby loss

Wayne Rooney opened up on the disappointing 3-0 defeat Manchester United suffered against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

The former England captain described how he and other ex-United stars, including Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic, gathered to observe the game and found it difficult to discern any clear strategy from the current squad. Rooney explained that, despite their varied experience, none could identify consistent patterns that could improve the team.

He said that watching the team struggle for cohesion was perplexing, as the club has been attempting a fresh tactical approach for almost a year now. Rooney emphasized the urgency of securing victories while adapting to new methods, something United have struggled with, dropping points at a rate reminiscent of relegation-threatened clubs.

The match itself was far from a classic derby. Rooney noted that City were hardly at their peak, yet still managed a convincing win, exposing Manchester United’s  weaknesses with just one win in four games, placing them precariously in the league standings.

Despite the bleak observation, reports suggest the club’s management supports Ruben Amorim and hopes he can bring the team back on course. Up next, United face another clash with Chelsea, a game which could define the trajectory of Amorim’s tenure.
