Former Rivers State governorship hopeful Tonye Cole has called on Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, to clarify his political loyalty by officially aligning with the All Progressives Congress (APC). The appeal aims to resolve confusion about Wike’s party membership.

During a discussion on Channels Television’s, Cole, co-founder of the Sahara Group, emphasized that Wike’s formal shift to the APC would dispel uncertainties around his political position. Wike’s current role in President Bola Tinubu’s APC-led government contrasts with his longstanding affiliation to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), causing a leadership dilemma especially after the 2023 elections.

Cole outlined the democratic risks when a politician holds sway across party lines. He warned against the dangers of such dual allegiances, describing it as harmful to the integrity of Nigeria’s democratic process.

Is he APC or PDP? From what we observe, he remains with the PDP.

He called on Wike to leave the PDP and join the APC to unify the political front in Rivers State, ending factionalism and mixed signals.

Cole believes Rivers State politics can stabilize and reach clarity. He encouraged all parties including the PDP, ADC, Labour Party, and YPP to cultivate their own strengths and operate within the democratic framework.
