The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency’s (NDLEA) Kano State Command has successfully confiscated 8,000 bottles of a herbal concoction known as Akuskura, believed to contain illegal substances, alongside 48 blocks of Cannabis sativa.
This development was revealed in an official statement issued Tuesday by Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, the Public Relations Officer for the Command.
According to Maigatari, a 37-year-old individual identified as Ali Muhammad was apprehended in connection with the seized consignment. The confiscation took place along the Zaria-Kano highway at Gadar Tamburawa.
The seizure occurred during a routine stop of a trailer transporting goods from Lagos on its way to Maiduguri. Maigatari explained that the vehicle was loaded with Tricycles, commonly called Keke Napep, and the suspected items were cleverly hidden between the tricycles and beneath the trailer, covered by a wooden partition.
He further commended the vigilance and dedication of NDLEA officers who uncovered the concealed cargo.
The Command confirmed that all recovered items and the suspect remain in custody as the agency carries out further investigation and laboratory testing to verify the exact nature of the substances involved.
The NDLEA urged residents to stay alert and report any suspicious shipments or drug-related activities to the nearest enforcement office or authorities.
