Four officers of the Delta State Police Command were arrested after a video circulating on social media showed them counting large sums of money inside a patrol vehicle in Asaba.

The Delta State Police Command swiftly responded to the uproar stirred by the viral footage, which displayed the officers handling bundles of cash while inside their  patrol van. Police spokesperson Bright Edafe confirmed the identification and immediate detention of the personnel involved.

Two senior officers among the quartet have been formally questioned, while the two inspectors remain in custody pending an internal disciplinary hearing. The inquiry will follow the orderly room trial procedure, the force’s established method for dealing with misconduct.

Authorities assured the public that appropriate penalties would be applied following the investigation’s conclusion. This action aims to promote the integrity of the police and deter any future breaches of conduct by its members.

This incident does not align with the principles we uphold. The operatives caught in the video have faced prompt administrative measures. We are determined to uphold justice and maintain public trust with thorough disciplinary processes

The police command’s response is commendable and it show its zero-tolerance stance on corruption and extortion among officers. The upcoming trial outcomes are expected to reinforce accountability and restore confidence in law enforcement’s role in the community.
