Ramzy Abu Ibrahim, a well-known Palestinian-Nigerian community leader, was arrested by Nigeria’s Anti-Terrorism Squad last Friday in Abuja.

Ramzy Abu Ibrahim, who has been residing in Nigeria for over 35 years and leads the Palestinian Community in Nigeria, was taken from his home in the Federal Capital Territory on August 22, 2025. Family members confirmed the arrest on Monday but have not been informed about his current location or the specific reason for his detention.

A relative said that the arresting officers identified themselves as members of the Anti-Terrorism Squad. The family suspects that Ibrahim’s recent public statements stating the escalating violence against journalists and civilians in Gaza may be linked to his detention. Ibrahim has recently been active in calling attention to the killings of journalists in Gaza due to Israeli airstrikes.

The Palestinian Embassy in Nigeria acknowledged awareness of Ibrahim’s arrest but said they are still trying to get more information. Nigerian security agencies have so far not issued any official statement about the arrest or his whereabouts.

Ibrahim’s family and the Palestinian Embassy continue to seek clarity on his detention, as the situation develops. Further updates are expected as more information becomes available.
