At least four people were killed and several others kidnapped when Boko Haram militants ambushed security personnel escorting farmers near Maiduguri in Borno State.
The attack happened on Monday morning in Dalori Gari village, just a few kilometers from the University of Maiduguri, according to Premium Times. The victims included a Civilian Joint Task Force member, a hunter, a soldier, and a mobile police officer. They were accompanying farmers to their farms when insurgents launched the sudden assault.
Sources on the ground say the attackers hid their motorcycles away from the scene before attacking on foot. The four victims died immediately after the gunfire started. Reports also indicate that an unknown number of people were taken hostage during the attack, though the exact figures remain unconfirmed.
As of now, authorities in Borno State have not officially confirmed the incident.
The violence disrupts farming activities and brings greater insecurity to areas close to Maiduguri, worsening living conditions for many in Borno. Security officials are expected to increase patrols in the area to prevent similar attacks. The well-being of those kidnapped remains unknown.
