NEMA Hand Over FG’s Relief Support To Adamawa Flood Victims

The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, has handed over relief assistance to Adamawa government for onward distribution to persons and communities affected by the recent flash flood disaster that ravaged several communities which claimed 23 lives.
The Zonal Director, North East of the agency, Yakubu Suleiman who handed over the items in Yola, Thursday on behalf of the Director General Zubaida Umar, said the agency through it Disaster Response Unit had played a vital role in evacuation and response operations during the flood
Suleiman added that the agency’s precautionary measure adopted ahead of the flood have reduced the fatality rate during the flood.
He handed over 500 bags of 25kg of rice 500 bags of 25kg of maize, 500 cartoons of spaghetti, 50 cartoons of seasoning cubes, 50 cartoons of tomato paste, 50 kegs of vegetables oil and 50 bags of iodized salt
Other non food items donated were 1000 pieces of plastic cups, 1000 pieces of plastic spoon, 250 pieces of children wears, 200 pieces of nylon mats, 200 pieces of blanket and 200 pieces of mattress.
Receiving the intervention on behalf of the state government, Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapha Farauta stated that the items would be distributed to the identified beneficiaries in the communities.
Farauta thanked President Tinubu for the intervention assuring that it would be judiciously distributed.
She explained that government will soon constitute a committee to enumerate households and individuals in
area of return of displaced person
“We want thank say thank you to Mr President who is father to the nation for the gesture.
“We want thank NEMA as an agency for standing by us all the time”. She added.

In a similar development, the North East Developments Commission (NEDC) has officially handed over relief materials to the Adamawa State Government for onward distribution to victims of the recent flash floods that affected several communities in Yola South Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

Speaking at the event, the state coordinator, NEDC Bar Khalifa Lawal reaffirmed the North East Developments Commission (NEDC) commitment to timely disaster response. He noted that the relief intervention such as food and non food items is part of ongoing efforts to cushion the impact of the disaster and support recovery among displaced persons.

Receiving the items on behalf of Adamawa State government, the Permanent secretary/Executive secretary Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA) expressed deep appreciation and commended the Collaborations of NEDC leadership for their timely support.
