A suicide bomber killed at least 11 people and injured several others at a food joint in Konduga, Borno State, on Friday night, June 20, 2025, police and local sources confirmed.

The attack occurred around 10:00 p.m. at a crowded local food joint near the Konduga fish market, approximately 36 kilometers from Maiduguri. The Borno State Police Command, through spokesperson ASP Nahum Daso, reported that the female bomber detonated an improvised explosive device, killing over 10 civilians. The Civilian Joint Task Force noted that 24 people, including both males and females, were fatally wounded, with the bomber’s body torn apart, leaving only her head intact.

Security forces, including military, police, and local hunters, swiftly cordoned off the area to prevent further attacks and conducted sweeps for additional explosives, finding none. Injured victims were rushed to Maiduguri Specialist Hospital for treatment. The police are investigating to determine the exact casualty count and circumstances of the attack, which some sources attribute to Boko Haram, known for using suicide bombings in the region’s insurgency.

The incident has heightened fears in Konduga, a frequent target of insurgent attacks. Borno State, a hotspot for Boko Haram and ISWAP activities, has seen a resurgence of such violence, prompting calls for increased security measures to protect residents and prevent further loss of life.
