INEC Set To Construct New Headquarters Due To Overstretch In Company Facilities

Mahmood Yakubu, chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission has confirmed the construction of a new headquarters due to the overstretching of government building facilities at the launching of construction on Tuesday.

The INEC Chairman explained the need for a new establishment to make operations smooth and efficient, he stated how there was no room for indoor operations, “The general staff meeting only takes outside the commission. FCDA built offices for the commission to accommodate the national headquarters as well as the FCT office.” The chairman also confirmed the support and backing received from the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike on the new construction after he revealed the plan on his X account. “When the building was overstretched, the FCDA again built our present headquarters.” He also reiterated on the effectiveness of the FCDA in their support for INEC. “When the commission relocated its HQ from Lagos to Abuja, it was the FCDA that provided the offices in Garki.”

The INEC Chairman clarified the relationship construction of the headquarters and the FCDA, “I wish to make it clear that this is not the first time the FCDA is constructing an office for INEC,” The Chairman revealed that in the last 34 years this marks the fourth time the FCDA to provide offices and launch the commission.
