Three children from a single family have lost their lives after drowning in an abandoned fish pond in Agbarha-Otor area of Delta State.

The young victims, identified as six-year-old Great Anthony Ikpera, eight-year-old Goodluck Anthony Ikpera, and 12-year-old Vwegba Jite Ikpera, hailed from the Awirhe community in Ughelli North Local Government Area.

They were declared missing on Saturday, by their parents, which led to a search that ended with the discovery of their bodies in the pond located beside a flowing stream on Sunday morning. Dawn Herald gathered that the remains of the minors have since been recovered and buried near the stream.

The President of the Agbarha Youth Council, Rufus Ovotu advised parents to monitor the movements of their children to avert similar occurrences.

“Parents must pay close attention to their children’s movements and prevent them from accessing streams and other potentially dangerous water bodies, particularly as water levels remain high”, Ovotu.

While the details of their entry into the abandoned facility remain unknown at the time of filing this report, investigations are ongoing to uncover how the children ended up in the abandoned facility.
