Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have successfully repelled an attack by suspected Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in Adamawa State.
The insurgents advanced on foot from Lar axis on Monday night in an attempt to overrun the Forward Operating Base (FOB) and destroy a military surveillance mast in Garaha, Hong Local Government Area.
The joint operations comprising the military, forest guards, and local hunters forced the attackers to flee in disarray. Clearance operations in the surrounding area led to the discovery of six terrorists’ corpses, the recovery of a large cache of arms, including six AK-47 rifles, one PKT machine gun, a 60mm mortar bomb, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition.
According to reports, the retreating terrorists killed a civilian and set houses ablaze in nearby Lar village.
While the base was secured, the military, however, confirmed that two soldiers sustained gunshot wounds during the encounter, while fleeing insurgents killed a civilian.
At the time this report was published, the two wounded personnel are in stable condition and are receiving medical treatments.
