Shell Petroleum B.V. has officially signed an agreement to sell its full interest in the Shell Nigeria Gas Group to an indigenous firm, Vaaris Energy Limited.
The divestment shows the multinational company’s complete exit from the nation’s domestic gas distribution sector.
Established in 1998, Shell Nigeria Gas operates approximately 170 kilometres of pipeline infrastructure across Ogun, Abia, and Rivers states. The subsidiary currently supplies natural gas to more than 130 connected industrial and commercial customers.
Confirming the development, the Country Chair of Shell in Nigeria, Elohor Aiboni, said:
“Shell Nigeria Gas has served industrial and commercial customers in Nigeria for more than 25 years, supported by the commitment and expertise of its people. We believe this agreement provides a much stronger platform for the business’ next chapter under new ownership”, Aiboni.
The transaction covers Shell Nigeria Gas Holding B.V. and remains strictly subject to regulatory conditions and approvals. Until the completion of the sale, the group will remain a part of Shell and continue its daily operations as usual.
