The Gombe State High Court has sentenced two men to death by hanging for robbing and killing a 35-year-old man over a mobile phone and N7,400 cash.

According to a report by Punch Newspaper, the court found Buhari Sule and Muktari Ali Hilami guilty of criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, and culpable homicide.

The prosecution proved that on September 18, 2025, the two men armed themselves with sticks and hoes and attacked the victim, Murtala Rabi’u, at Garin Galadima village in Akko Local Government Area. After beating him to death, the attackers stole his Itel keypad phone, his money (N7,400) and shared it amongst themselves, before dumping his body in a maize farm.

During the trial, the defendants pleaded not guilty. However, the prosecution called witnesses who provided strong evidence to prove the case against them.

Delivering the final judgment, Justice Muhammad-Auwal Haruna stated that the prosecution team had successfully proven the allegations.

“The prosecution has established its case and proved the allegations against the defendants beyond reasonable doubt,” Justice Haruna.

He made the judgement after that the two men failed to properly defend themselves against the criminal charges.

The judge then sentenced both men to be hanged by the neck until dead.
