Kano State has arrested more than 380 suspects and secured over 230 convictions within two months of combating drug abuse and illegal trafficking.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf made the announcement on Thursday during his address at the 66th Independence Anniversary celebration at the Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium in Kano.

The Kano state government created the Kano State Multi-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, to flush out criminal elements and drug hideouts across the state.

Governor Yusuf, while addressing the public, stated that curbing drug abuse is a collective job that requires effort from everyone, including parents, religious figures, traditional leaders, and local residents.

He appealed to young people in the state to stay away from illicit substances and crime,  and take advantage of the opportunities available in the state.

“Embrace education, agriculture, technology, enterprise, vocational training, and the creative industries”, Yusuf.

The governor added that the state will continue funding security operations, improving community intelligence, and tackling the root social issues driving young people toward crime.
