Gombe State Police have arrested two young men linked to an armed robbery that led to the death of a police officer’s wife.
The suspects, 20-year-old Muhammad Bashir Sale and 18-year-old Musa Sale Ahmad, were arrested on Saturday, September 26. Both suspects live in the Wuro Shie area, where the crime took place.
According to reports, the attack happened around 4:35 am at the home of Inspector Salisu Waziri, an officer with the Safer Highway Patrol. The attackers, both armed with machetes, broke into the house and tried to steal a mobile phone from the officer’s wife, Mrs. Aishatu Salisu.
When Mrs. Salisu shouted for help, one of the robbers stabbed her with a machete before escaping from the house, leaving the phone behind.
Officers from the Pantami Divisional Patrol Team rushed to the scene and took Mrs. Salisu to the Federal Teaching Hospital in Gombe, where doctors confirmed she had passed away.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Gombe State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, confirmed that the two suspects confessed to the crime during questioning, surrendering the knife used during the attack.
The Gombe State Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Ahmed Chuso, has ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to conduct a thorough investigation to ensure everyone involved faces justice. The Police advised residents to remain watchful and report any suspicious activity in the area immediately.
