An Upper Shari’a Court sitting at Kofar Kudu in Kano has ordered three men to be remanded in a correctional centre over the alleged murder of popular social media commentator Ibrahim Khalil Dan Shagamu.
The defendants Aliyu Adamu, Salihu Haruna, and Sani Muhammad were arraigned before Justice Ibrahim Sarki Yola on two counts of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide, with all three pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecution counsel Nafiu Kabiru told the court that the suspects invaded Dan Shagamu’s residence at Gaida Quarters in Kumbotso Local Government Area around 11:30 PM on September 8, 2026. The men allegedly attacked him with a sharp knife and slit his throat. He was then rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano, where doctors confirmed him dead.
Justice Ibrahim Sarki Yola ruled that the three accused men remain in prison custody pending trial.
Dan Shagamu before his death was widely known across Kano for his outspoken videos on political and local affairs. Prior to the fatal attack, he had shared videos online alerting the public to growing threats against his life.
