A group of eleven children, the oldest aged 13, discovered over 1,200 rounds of live anti-aircraft ammunition while fishing in a drainage trench in Bulunkutu, a community previously plagued by the activities of Boko Haram insurgents, in Borno State.
Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) forces, immediately after being briefed about the discovery immediately secured the site, praising the children for reporting to the security forces rather than handling the dangerous objects.
The children were publicly commended and given cash rewards by Sector 9 security personnel for their role in preventing a potential catastrophe.
Children recovered exactly 1,270 rounds of 12.7mm ammunition warheads and several live rounds.
