President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is scheduled to present the 2026 Appropriation Bill to a joint session of the National Assembly on Friday, December 19.

The 2026 budget cycle follows a turbulent 2025 fiscal year. While President Tinubu previously stated that revenue targets had been met by August, Finance Minister Wale Edun recently revealed to lawmakers that the government faced a ₦30 trillion shortfall, earning only ₦10.7 trillion of ₦40.8 trillion projected.

The 2026 budget framework, aims to move away from multiple concurrent budgets and focus on a Renewed Hope Ward Development Plan to drive prosperity across the 8,809 political wards    of the country.

‎The proposed 2026 budget is estimated at ₦54.43 trillion, with a projected deficit of ₦20.1 trillion, approximately 3.61% of GDP, while a ₦15.91 trillion is disignated for debt servicing, nearly 30% of the total budget. This is set against a projected federal revenue of ₦34.33 trillion, which the government admits is 16% lower than the 2025 estimate.
