Nigerian Army troops have neutralized a notorious bandit kingpin, Kachalla Kallamu, and a total of 14 other suspected bandits in a series of operations in the Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
Kachalla Kallamu, a senior lieutenant and deputy to bandits leader Bello Turji, was killed during a military sweeping operation in the eastern parts of the state.
The operation was executed by troops of the 8 Division, Joint Task Force North West Operation Fansan Yamma (Operation Sweep Out Bandits), working in partnership with local vigilante teams.
Kachalla Kallamu, a native of Garin-Idi, Sabon Birni, was killed alongside one of Bello Turji’s top logistics suppliers during a fire battle in Kurawa village on Monday, December 9, 2025.
A total of 13 suspected bandits were neutralized in the joint operations across Tarah and Kurawa communities, including the elimination of Kallamu and his logistics supplier. Another source reported 11 neutralised bandits, recovering eight AK-47 rifles, large caches of ammunition, five extra magazines, and 26 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition during the operations.
Kallamu had previously fled a military onslaught in June 2025, during which he reportedly took refuge in Kogi State before sneaking back into Sokoto recently.
The operation disrupted a planned attack on Tara Village, a hotspot area for the movement of criminal elements, preventing what could have been a tragic incident. Residents of Sabon Birni LGA expressed relief and jubilation over the news.
The Special Adviser on Security to Governor Ahmad Aliyu, retired Colonel Ahmad Usman, commended the troops for their professionalism, and their resilience in the fight against insecurity in the state.
