An army General, identified as a Brigade Commander, was reportedly kidnapped, and multiple soldiers and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) were killed when the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) ambushed a Nigerian military convoy.
The attack occurred around 5:00 p.m. yesterday near Sabon Gari in Damboa Local Government Area, Borno State. The abduction of a serving General directly from the frontline by this terrorist is a disturbing and unprecedented report.
The convoy, which included soldiers and CJTF members, was moving toward the Bongry area on the Biu Road when concealed ISWAP terrorists opened fire. Initial reports suggest two soldiers and two CJTF personnel were killed in the exchange. The General kidnapped is a Brigade Commander and was reportedly leading the troops when the convoy was intercepted.
The convoy was observed leaving Damboa around 2:00 p.m. and included armored personnel carriers, Hilux vehicles, and motorcycles. According to existing reports, this marks the first record of any extremist group in Nigeria capturing a serving General directly from the frontline.
The military authorities have not yet confirmed the incident or provided official casualty figures, as at the time this report was published.
