The Chairman of Funtua Local Government Area of Katsina State, Hon. Abdu Goya, reportedly visited armed bandit camps in order to strengthen the peace deal with local communities.

‎The visit by the local chairman is a strategy adopted by local authorities in the region often when official military operations yielded no effect.  Proponents argue that this strategy is the only way to secure a temporary cessation of hostilities and the release of abductees, while others argue that negotiating with terrorists only legitimize criminal groups.

‎The  mission of the Chairman was specifically focused on building trust, fostering dialogue, and ensuring the release of individuals abducted during earlier conflicts, according to reports. He stressed that the visit was intended to deepen the existing peace process.

‎However, the reality on the ground shows the difficulty in maintaining such truces. The recent attack in Doguwar Dorawa, near Guga in Bakori Local Government, shows the disregard by bandits for such agreements. The attackers, believed to be loyalists of notorious bandit leaders Idi Abasu Aiki and Kwashen Garwa, operated for over an hour.
‎Similar attacks involving mass abductions and displacement have been reported in other communities in recent weeks.
