The Federal Government of Nigeria has introduced the “Excellence in Tax Reform Reporting Award”, a prize worth a total of N10 million for journalists and digital content creators who demonstrate balanced and factual reporting on Nigeria’s extensive tax reform efforts.

The award is a proactive measure by the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, chaired by Taiwo Oyedele, to manage public perception and promote accurate understanding of the newly signed tax legislation.

In June 2025, President Bola Tinubu signed four major tax reform bills into law, with the laws scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2026. These reforms are the most significant overhaul of Nigeria’s tax landscape in decades, aiming to streamline administration, boost non-oil revenue, and enhance the ease of doing business.

The government intends for the award to strengthen constructive public discourse, counter misinformation, and elevate journalism that explains reforms in ways citizens can trust and understand, according to a statement from Oyedele.
