The Niger State Police Command has neutralized three suspected kidnappers and rescued one victim during a special operation in Kokolo Forest, Magama Local Government Area. The operation took place early on September 12, 2025, following intelligence reports.
Acting on credible intelligence, a combined team from the Police Special Task Team (STT), Force Intelligence Department-Special Tactical Squad (FID-STS), and local vigilante members launched a clearance operation deep within Kokolo Forest near Kawo-Auna village.
The mission aimed to dismantle known kidnappers’ hideouts disrupting local communities. In a gunfight that ensued during the early hours of the day, three suspected kidnappers were killed, while others fled with gunshot wounds. The troops safely recovered a victim trapped by the kidnappers and secured the area.
Police also seized two AK-47 rifles and 49 rounds of live ammunition from the scene.The atmosphere in the recovered villages was tense but hopeful as the news spread, with residents expressing relief at the operation’s success.
The Niger State Police Command has urged residents, especially in neighbouring villages, to report anyone found with gunshot injuries to security agencies. The police authorities assure operations aimed at eradicating kidnapping from the area and restoring safety to vulnerable communities.
