Forty-seven tertiary institution students from across Nigeria have received a combined sum of N47 million and brand-new laptops as part of the Renewed Hope Initiative’s scholarship programme. The ceremony took place at the State House in Abuja, marking another milestone in the First Lady Oluremi Tinubu’s agenda to empower youths.
The recipients, drawn from varied academic fields including Medicine, Law, Engineering, Education, Sciences, and Humanities, were selected based on academic excellence, maintaining a minimum GPA of 3.0. This year’s batch features students at different stages of their studies: five in their final year, 39 in 300 Level, two in 200 Level, and one National Diploma student.
The awards, handed out on behalf of the First Lady’s flagship program, comprise a N1 million annual grant alongside a laptop to aid their educational pursuits. Speaking at the event, Mrs. Tinubu emphasised the scheme’s life-changing impact, noting that this platform goes beyond politics, focusing on transforming lives. She urged beneficiaries to maximise the opportunity, balancing their studies with productive strategies that can further improve their circumstances.
The Minister of Education applauded the initiative for complementing government programs, emphasizing that over the past two years, the administration has disbursed bursaries and scholarships totaling more than N14 billion to support students across key sectors. He also mentioned the Nigeria Education Loan Fund which has extended financial aid to over 500,000 students, with flexible repayment terms that only commence after graduation and employment.
The National Secretary of the Renewed Hope Initiative and wife of Imo State’s governor, Mrs. Chioma Uzodimma, congratulated the awardees for their dedication and academic performance. She reinforced the importance of the current project in equipping young Nigerians with both financial aid and digital tools needed to thrive in today’s economy.
Experts and dignitaries at the award ceremony described the project as a pivotal move toward bridging educational gaps in Nigeria. They expressed how the mixture of monetary support and technology empowers students to meet the growing demands of an increasingly digital world.
The Renewed Hope Initiative continues to be placed as a vital foundation for youth empowerment in Nigeria, with a diverse scheme put together by the President Bola Ahmad Tinubu administration, which is aimed at improving the lives of Nigerian youths.
