The Jigawa state government has approved funding of N7 billion to support agro-input suppliers for the 2025 dry season rice cultivation campaign.

This development took place at a State Executive Council meeting on Tuesday in Dutse.
The recently released funds are intended to accelerate the deployment of the 2025 Dry Season Rice Input Voucher System, aimed at empowering farmers and increasing rice yields across the state. According to Mr. Sagir Musa, Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports, and Culture, the allocation states the government’s dedication to transforming agriculture through targeted investments in dry season farming.

This financial endorsement follows previous disbursements totaling over N3.2 billion, which was paid to farmers who benefited from last season’s rice cultivation endeavor. Altogether, the government has invested more than N10.3 billion in this agricultural project to date.

Musa emphasized that the administration will continue scaling up support by ensuring timely distribution and full settlement for essential farm inputs, including high-grade seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides. These efforts are designed to place Jigawa as a pivotal rice production hub within Nigeria.

Further support was outlined with the council’s approval of N365.7 million dedicated to constructing 4,600 tube wells in prime agricultural zones. This water access improvement campaign aims to enhance irrigation capabilities, bolster smallholder farmers’ capacity, and drive a surge in crop output, setting the stage for a successful harvest season.

The government’s commitment to agricultural development is unwavering.. by providing critical resources and infrastructure, we are empowering our farmers to achieve greater yields and contribute significantly to food security in the region – Musa

He also stressed the importance of continuing the momentum to ensure that dry season rice cultivation remains a cornerstone of Jigawa’s economic growth strategy.

Stakeholders anticipate substantial gains in food production and rural livelihoods, as the state administration moves forward with these investment efforts. The continuous rollout of these farming support measures will help boost  Jigawa’s agricultural sector, with the next harvest expected to reflect the state’s rising prominence in Nigeria’s rice industry.
