Abayomi Arabambi, Labour Party’s factional publicity secretary, announced on July 8, 2025, plans to expel Peter Obi for anti-party activities, citing his support for the African Democratic Congress, during a Channels Television interview.

Arabambi, speaking on Morning Brief, said the Labour Party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) will convene to expel Obi, the party’s 2023 presidential candidate. He claimed Obi’s prior suspension and support for ADC constitute unconstitutional dual party membership.

The LP chieftain accused Obi, former Anambra State governor, of initiating the party’s internal crisis, asserting that he is unfit to lead any political party. Arabambi emphasized that belonging to two parties simultaneously violates political regulations.

Despite his involvement with the ADC coalition, Obi has maintained that he remains a Labour Party member, not an ADC member, but a supporter of the movement. He also reaffirmed his intent to contest the 2023 presidency, asserting his qualifications.

The planned NEC meeting aims to formalize Obi’s expulsion, Arabambi stated, escalating tensions within the Labour Party as it grapples with internal divisions and Obi’s political alignments ahead of future elections.
